Activities In A Suitcase
There are loads of things you like to do. Make plans so you can continue to do your thing … in a different place. Take a look at how you can prepare to stay active after the move.
JOB: If you are leaving a part-time job, don’t forget to:
- Give your employer your new contact info so he or she can send you your last pay cheque and any income tax documents.
- Ask for a letter of reference and permission to offer your employer’s name as a work reference. You’ll need their contact info.
- Ask your employer if they can refer you to a business in the new location, especially if you’re working for a chain store.
- You may be able to contact a potential employer and arrange for an interview.
- Update your resume so you’re ready to start job-hunting right away. Don’t forget to include your letter of reference!
Activities: It’s quite normal to want to continue the same activities … whether it’s dancing, playing football or collecting butterflies. Don’t wait until you have moved to start your research. Start NOW!
Here are some great tips:
- Inform your coach, teacher or mentor that you’re leaving and ask them to recommend, or help you find a club in the future location. Many of these clubs belong to an association and can provide you with this information.
- If you have achieved a level of qualification in an activity (for example, in swimming or martial arts), make sure to bring your certification papers with you. It will make life easier when you start again in your new community.
- Ask for your coach or instructor’s contact info. You may need help or advice after you have moved.
