Keep Your Friends
There are a few things you can do to keep friendships alive when you move.
Check out these suggestions:
- Write down contact info for all of your friends: snail-mail address, phone number with area code, email address, and their parents’ full names (this can be really useful when you want to track someone down after losing touch).
- Take lots of photos of your friends, your community and your surroundings.
- Make a business card with your future contact info and distribute the cards to your friends, teachers, coaches, youth staff at the base, and anyone else you want to stay connected with. This can also be done virtually!
- Organize a huge “I’m Going Away Party”. Best to check with your family first though…
- Tell your friends that you care about them. Yeah, we know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but talking about it can really make a difference!
Make plans to see your friends in the not-too-distant future. Plan to visit them or invite them to visit you (you might want to tell your parents first since they’ll probably be paying for the ticket! Well maybe not!)
