Home Sweet Home...
You’ve made it! You’re now in your new home...but...
NOW WHAT…??
Well, it’s time to explore and get to know what the community has to offer.
Remember, take one step at the time!
To explore…
- Get out of the house and discover what the community has to offer: stores, cafés, museums, community centers, etc.
Check out the hot spot list for your base in the CF Locations section (under development)of this site.
- Visit the Base/Wing Community Center and MFRC and ask to meet the youth friendly staff.
- Find out if there are volunteering opportunities on the Base/Wing or at the community center.
- Go visit your future school and ask to meet with the principal.
Your “To do” List:
- Open a new bank account.
- Apply for a new driver’s license (if you have changed provinces).
- Locate sports associations or teams that interest you and ask for try-out dates.
- Identify schools or clubs that meet your extra-curricular interests.
- Learn about the public transport services.
- Get to know relevant emergency information for your new community.
Keep in mind that…
- After you have moved, you may experience feelings of sadness or anger. It takes time to adapt. Don’t be afraid to chat with someone about this.
- Keep in touch with your old friends! Share what you are experiencing in your new home-town. The Internet is a great communication tool! Check out the Connecting CF Youth forum, and stay connected…
- Trying to fit in is normal but hey, not at any cost! One of the best ways to make your moving experience a positive one is to get involved in positive activities and pastimes.
